Dear O and C,

Happy New Year!  I can’t believe it’s 2024!  I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas.  I hope you were able to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, and appreciate all of the blessings in your lives.  I hope you were able to spend time with your family and friends.  I hope you were able to relax, reflect, and be grateful for the things that bring you joy in your lives.  I want you to know that I am incredibly proud of both of you.  I missed you both so much over the holidays.

I want to share some highlights with you from my holidays.  First off, it was CS’s first Christmas.  It was wonderful to celebrate with him.  He is so joyful, and reminds me so much of the two of you, when you were his age.  RC and I took him to Lake Tahoe to see snow for the first time.  We had lots of fun making snow angels, and building snowmen.  Ironically, it was the first time I had worn my snow jacket, since the last time I brought the two of you to the snow.  We went sledding, and the ticket from the snow park was still attached to my jacket.  Seeing that ticket really brought a warm feeling to my heart.  I was able to reminisce about that day.  We had so much fun going down all of the runs.  Some runs were really steep, and we got going really fast!  After a full day of sledding, we went and had hot cocoa and cookies in the lodge, before making the long trek back home.  You both slept soundly the entire ride home.  It’s a day I will never forget.  I can’t wait until you get to meet CS someday; you are absolutely going to adore him!

Next, RC, CS and I celebrated Christmas at my moms’ house with my brother and his family.  It was a wonderful celebration.  We had prime rib, mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and salad for dinner.  For dessert, my mom made a chocolate cake, the one you guys used to love!  It was so yummy!  We opened gifts, played games, and enjoyed our time together.  Your grandma still puts out a picture of the two of you sitting on Santa Claus’ lap.  It was beautiful to be able to see that picture, and allowed me once again to reflect on all of the wonderful times we shared.  Especially around the holidays; it was so magical.  I hope you are still able to feel some of that Christmas magic.

There was a bittersweet end to my holiday break.  We were finally able to have my grandma’s memorial service; your great grandmother, who you knew as MoMo.  It was a beautiful service and our entire family was able to attend, with the exception of you two, and my cousin A and her family.  My mom gave a beautiful speech honoring her late mother. In her speech she mentioned the two of you; it brought tears to everyone’s eyes.  Everyone in my family misses the two of you so much, the same way we all miss MoMo.  It was an amazing celebration of life.  We shared stories, pictures, tears, laughs, and the room was filled with love.  The celebration was held at a local Italian restaurant, and the food was exceptional too. It was a great reminder that life is precious; and so, it’s best to love hard, forgive, and be grateful for all of God's gifts.  The next day we were able to spread my grandma’s ashes in the ocean, the same place where my grandpa’s ashes were spread.  It was such an emotional sendoff, and I swear, the moment the ashes hit the water, the clouds broke, and the sun peered through.  This was all the confirmation I needed to know that my grandma is now up in heaven, with my grandpa and the rest of her family and friends who have passed. Also, there is no doubt in my mind that the two of you now have one more guardian angel, shining a light down on you, every day.

I hope you boys had a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and a smooth transition back to school.  I miss you and I love you very much.

Love,

Dad
