Dear O and C,
We had a nice visit yesterday. C, you were in such a good mood. I haven’t seen you laugh, play, joke around, and be carefree like that in a really long time. It was so nice to see your true personality shine through. You also shared so much cool information about your life with me. You told me your favorite State was Ohio, and that the Ohio State flag was shaped differently from the rest of the U.S. state flags. You taught me something new; I had no idea! You told me that you and your brother both won the game ball from your first baseball games. You both got hits, and your teams won! You told me that you are attending a basketball camp this summer! I am so proud of you, and I am so happy you are having success in sports, and getting enjoyment from playing them. That truly warms my heart. You told me about your mission project, and how you got to go and visit a California Mission. You also told me how in May, you get to go on an overnight field trip, and that you are looking forward to it. Oh, and lastly, you told me about the fort you built in your apartment, made out of cardboard boxes. It’s been raining a lot, and instead of being on technology all the time, you’ve been playing in your fort. I love you so much C. Thank you for sharing bits and pieces of your life with me.
O, I am so proud of you! You told me how your flag football team won the championship game! Way to go dude! You also told me how you made one of the game winning plays on defense. That’s awesome! You shared with me about your game ball as well; and how you got a hit, and how your team won their first game. You also shared with me that you can jump rope longer than anyone in your class. Also, that you will be attending a basketball camp during spring break, which is next week. I am so proud of you, and happy that you too, are finding joy and fulfillment through sports. Clearly, you and your brother take after your father in that regard. You shared that you were excited to have Ramen for dinner. We talked about our favorite foods, and you and I both agree that Ramen and Pho soup are both very good; especially on a cold day (which yesterday was).
I’m trying to come to grips with the fact that our reunification is going to be a very slow process. I want to thank both of you, and express my gratitude, for the fact that you are both showing up for our visits, and interacting with me. Although we haven’t really dug into the deep stuff yet, I have thoroughly been enjoying the time we do get to spend together. This is the ultimate test of patience, and being grateful for what we have in life; instead of feeling sorry for ourselves for what we don’t have. I am grateful for the two of you, and the time we get to spend together. I always have been, I always will be. Honestly, despite all the hardship you both have gone through recently, you both seem to be well adjusted, and thriving. As a parent, I couldn’t ask for much more. When you are ready to progress our relationship, open up to me more, communicate with me more, I’ll be right here waiting. I’ll wait for an eternity if I have to. Trust me, it’s worth it. You two are worth it. You are my world, and you always will be. There is nothing more important in my life than family, and you two are my family, forever. I love you both so much.
Love,
Dad
