Dear O and C,
Happy Monday! I hope you guys had a great weekend! I missed you. I was thinking about how nice it would be if I got to watch your baseball and flag football games. I miss that tremendously. Hopefully that will change someday, before it’s too late.
I wanted to reflect on our last visit, because it went so well. O, I saw you first, per usual. You came in beaming with joy, so excited to tell me about the new game you discovered; marbles. You told me about the book you were reading in class, about a boy, and his friend, who played the game of marbles. You explained the rules to me. Then, we played for the entire duration of the visit. You beat me, of course, but I was so happy that your teacher made such a great connection with you, and that you took so much pride in the game. You also told me how you made the finals in the class marbles tournament, which would be taking place the following day.
After our visit I emailed your teacher thanking her for making a true connection with you, and instilling confidence in you. I told her what a wonderful time you and I had playing marbles, and how excited you were to share the game and its history with me. She responded that I had made her day by sharing that with her. I am so grateful for the amazing people in your life who instill values, and a willingness to learn. I imagine you’ve had quite a few of those people in your life, in the absence of me, your father. Although they can never take the place of me, I am so grateful for them, and the positive contributions they have made in your life. Again, someday I hope to be the one who can instill confidence in you, teach you, and promote a lifelong love for learning.
C, we had a great visit as well. We played basketball for most of the time. You created a new game where you lie down on the trampoline and shoot baskets. Your creative little mind never ceases to amaze me. You have always had such an explorative and creative mind and personality, and it’s good to see that it continues to exist. I love you both so very much, and I can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
Love,
Dad
